Welcome Weekend Essential Events The first weekend you spend on campus here at Illinois is bound to be a busy one. From the second you step on campus, there are plenty of activities for all freshman students to attend, and theyre a great beginning to your four years here. Here are some of the ones I went to, and in my opinion, the ones you really shouldnt miss out on when trying to get yourself acquainted with the school. New Student Convocation As Chancellor Jones said in his convocation speech, Convocation is the first bookend to your experience here at the University of Illinois. Convocation is like the opposite of graduation; speakers welcome you into the school and get you ready to be a member of the Illini family. This is also one of the only times that your entire year will be attending something together, and its very cool to see everyone who is also beginning their experience in one room. Convocation is not something to miss, and it got me very excited to start the year. College Welcome Meeting This one will be more subjective as I attended the College of Media meeting, but they are all more or less similar. At my meeting, we had a large greeting of everyone in the College of Media, and the dean of students welcomed us all to school. We got another talk about what it means to be a student and the opportunities we have as Media students going forward. After that, we split into our respective majors and had more specific talks with professors, advisers, and students about what being a journalism major was like. They let us know about the clubs, extracurriculars, and other professional opportunities we had through the college and on campus. After all of the meetings, we had a chance to go to a fair to sign up for media-specific clubs. All of the colleges differ in what their meetings are, but they are essential for getting ready for classes. Illinois Sights and Sounds Illinois Sights and Sounds prepares you to be a social Illini and gets you excited for the schools athletics. The Marching Illini perform, speeches are given from important figures like our football coach Lovie Smith and basketball player Giorgi Bezhanishvili, and you are taught all the chants and dances that are done at the football games. The hour-long event in Memorial Stadium got me excited to go to the football games and cheer on our team this weekend against the Akron Zips. Quad Day Quad day is probably the craziest event on this list, considering everyone on the whole campus is invited. Before coming here, I couldnt believe that Illinois had over 1,800 student organizations, but after seeing them all with my very own eyes, its true. They arent joking when they say that there is a club or organization for everyone, whether you are into sports, service, or video games. Checking out Quad Day can help you meet people with the same interests as you and help make some new friends on campus. Before coming to college, I was afraid it would take me a while to get acclimated. But with all the academic and social events that Illinois provided, I felt right at home, and it only took me one weekend. Noah Class of 2023 I’m studying Journalism in the College of Media. Mount Holyoke Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores, GPA

Mount Holyoke College is a private womens liberal arts college with an acceptance rate of 51%. Founded in 1837, and located in South Hadley, Massachusetts, Mount Holyoke College is the oldest of the Seven Sisters colleges. Mount Holyoke is also a member of the  Five College Consortium  with  Amherst College,  UMass Amherst,  Smith College  and  Hampshire College. The student-to-faculty ratio is 10-to-1. On the athletic front, the Mount Holyoke Lyons compete in the NCAA Division III New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference for most sports. The college fields 14 varsity sports. Mount Holyoke has a beautiful campus, and students can enjoy the colleges botanic gardens, two lakes, waterfalls, and horseback-riding trails. Bush on July 26, 1990. The ADA is civil rights act that prohibits discrimination on people with disabilities. Before this act was passed only one out of five children with disabilities attended a public school, according to the U. S. department of Education (L. S). There was a Civil Rights Act of 1964 created that made discrimination based on race, religion, sex, and other characteristics illegal. The original intent of the law was to create a civil rights law for people with disabilities that would be permanent, would not be able to be weakened, and would stop all discrimination. The ADA was suppose to be a flexible set of laws that could only be strengthened and never weakened. Title 1. 1 of the Americans with disabilities act is employment, and explains how people shall not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities. Title I prohibits employers with fifteen or more employers from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities in a job application procedures, hiring, DORRIS 2 advancement, compensation, job training, and other conditions and privileges of employment simply because they have disabilities† (K, S). Title 1. 2 of the ADA discusses public entities and public transportation. It prohibits discr imination by all public entities. This includes physical access for Accessible Design. Public entities and transportation have to have accessible utilities for disabled people. Title II applies to public transportation provided by public entities through regulations by the U. S. Department of transportation. Title II also applies to all state and local public housing, housing assistance, and housing referrals. Title 1. 3 of the ADA prohibits discrimination of disability in the activities of places of public accommodation. This law indicates that all restaurants, movie theatres, buildings, etc. are accessible for people with disabilities. Title III has had more effect on the lives of Americans with Disabilities than any other ADA title. Individuals with and without disabilities should be accessible to do the same things throughout life. Title 1. 4 of the ADA is Telecommunications. â€Å"The law requires that all telephone companies that provide telephone voice transmission services, whether interstate or intrastate, also provide telephone relay services that allow people who are hearing or speech impaired to place and receive calls through devices to or from people who do not use such devices† (American Rehabilitation). This act led to installing public teletypewriter machines and other TDDs. TDD’s are the telecommunication devices for the deaf. For blind people they will change all written texts into voice messages and will change all voice recordings into texts for the deaf. DORRIS 3 The last title of the ADA is miscellaneous provisions. Title V includes technical provisions and this law applies to and person that prevents an individual from exercising his or her rights. This is any form of retaliation including threats, intimidation, or interference is not allowed if it is intended to interfere in a negative way. Any person who exercises their rights under the ADA or helps someone else in exercising their rights is protected from retaliation. Since the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 was created, there have been a lot of changes made that have positively affected people with disabilities. â€Å"This long awaited piece of federal legislation was expected to protect individuals with disabilities from discrimination in employment opportunities and ensure and access to various social institutions† (Bowman). The ADA helped people with disabilities get jobs, make social places and transportation accessible for them and even created phone operator systems to help translate messages to deaf and blind people. The Americans With Disabilities Act made disabled individuals feel accepted and they were not discriminated anymore in things they wished to do. Contrary to the positive outcomes of the ADA there were also still downfalls for people who had disabilities. â€Å"Pro-business conservative commentators mentioned that the Americans With Disabilities Act was an expensive headache to millions†(Doherty 18). Because of all the changes that had to be made to make things accessible for people with disabilities it ended up being very costly for everyone. I feel as if people with disabilities should be able to do as much as they can in order to live a happy and normal life just like everyone else. Even though there are downfalls of the ADA individuals have a lot more rights then they ever had several years ago before the act was established. If I was disabled I would want to be able to live my life just like every other person, and the ADA helped people feel that they could. The company named Wollongong car manufacturing maintained certain key indicator factors that were necessary in the company. The company had a detailed plan of the key indicator factors. The above table shows the same. The key areas include the induction program that is safe for the employees, the individual training program for each employee, the performance and the measurement of the kinds of goods manufactured (Baxter et al. 2015). This is essentially important and it includes the measurement of the performance of the employees and the knowledge regarding the gods that are being manufactured in the company. It evaluates whether the manufactured goods are in line with the procedures and most importantly the policies of the company. The next key factor is the productivity of the employees. The major reason behind keeping this factor is to check the productivity o f the employees (Ebrahimi et al. 2016). The employees are supposed to give their full production. They are supposed to give the maximum amount of production through the execution of maximum efforts. This factor is maintained to increase the productivity of the employees and increase the revenue of the products. The final key factor of this is the retention of the employees (Tompa et al. 2016). The KPI of this area is to keep a regular watch on the employees. It is framed to rather keep a check on the activities and the potential of the employees working in the company (Schulte et al. 2014). According to the report the target of attaining these key factors is not set and the respective targets are set for the same. It has been observed that the company has attained the target within the time in maximum times. The company has set a goal target through the key performance indicator model and they have to some extent has not justified that. The final score of the target achieved has sho wn the same. The function of key performance indicators is to measure the effectiveness of the set plans and procedures formulated by the officials of the company and keep a track of whether the performance of the employees are in line with the rules and responsibilities assigned to them to achieve the desired target. The Wollongong manufacturing aims for the same and has set up this model for the attainment of the same (Coenen et al. 2017). Recommendations for improvements According to the Workplace health and safety act the there has been a gap in the Wollongong manufacturing company. The gaps are the lack of understanding of the manufacturing company and the trainings in the company that is to be used or that could be expected to be used by the investors. The investors must follow the structure could e reasonably used by the investors. The first and foremost gap is the induction process which is maintained for the safety of the employees in the company is not maintained. The employees were not fully aware of their jobs and responsibilities which created a threat to the safety of the company as it might lead to health hazard. The target that was set was attained in the right time but that was just the job done on the part of the company. The company should take proper feedback from the employees regarding their understanding of the induction process. This is necessary and highly essential in the company (Enright 2014). The second gap was the failure in keeping a regular watch on the activities and performance of the employees through which talented and efficient employees could have been retained which could have ensured the overall productivity of the organization which could have lead to an increase in the revenue. The company has set a program in which it has made the plan to check the progress of the employees but it has not made efforts to do the same. It has done that yearly basis but it was needed for the company to do that in the quarterly basis. The company must keep a regular watch on the activities of the employees. This increases the motivation of the employees towards their work and in turn increases the productivity of the employees (Preibisch and Otero 2014). The final issue that has violated the workplace health and safety act is providing individual training to the employees. It is extremely essential for the safety of the company. The company arranges for the same but not in a qualitative manner. Every individual should be provided with quality training. The training should be on an individual level. The training must include the dealing of the problems of the health issues of the employees as well. A counseling process must be arranged which will include the dealings of the health issues of the employees. This activity will prove as a positive factor in the company. It will motivate the employees to do their job. The company has arranged for the individual training session but not on a regular basis. The employees gets no motivation to do their job therefore, the revenue of the company does not increase. The company must design a monthly training program and it must be organized in a standard manner and in a standard forum. The counse ling session should also be arranged regularly.
